Chiropractic care can help athletes continue doing what they love. Our goal is to optimize function, improve athletic performance, prevent injury, and rehabilitate from injury in a speedy and safe fashion when it occurs.
At Woodbridge Avenue Chiropractic & Wellness Centre, we offer a number of specialized techniques, for which Dr. Villani has received specific training:
Active Release Technique is a soft tissue technique that treats problems with muscle, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Some injuries that can be managed with ART include repetitive strains, adhesions and joint dysfunction. A number of conditions resulting from overused muscles can be effectively resolved with ART, including headaches, backpain, carple tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow, among others.
Graston Technique is an instrument assisted soft tissue technique. It helps to improve range of motion, increase flexibility, and decrease pain during activity and rest. Some injuries that can be managed with Graston Technique include plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinosis, patellofemoral disorders, trigger finger, scar tissue, shin splints, and rotator cuff tendinosis, among others.
SpiderTech Kinesiotaping is used as a means of prevention and treatment of sports- related injuries. It is made of 100% cotton fibres, which allows it to be worn during physical activity and bathing, for a period of up to 4-5 days.
Taping achieves faster recovery times while reducing discomfort. Performance can be naturally improved by reducing the likelihood of development of pain in performance environments. Some therapeutic effects of taping include: Preventing harmful range of motion, reduces swelling and pain related to the injury, and provides an increased perception of stability.
Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a peripheral nerve stimulation technique performed with single use, sterile, disposable needles and electricity that is used for the therapeutic purpose of treating pain and dysfunction. It produces many effects by stimulating nerve receptors in the skin and muscle. In athletes, the main goal of acupuncture is to increase blood flow and get the muscles stimulated, thereby restoring function and enhancing performance.
